Driving Lawlessness Down America's Throatby Barbara Vickroy and Frosty WooldridgeLast month, dozens of buses filled with illegal aliens and sympathizers drove across the US in direct violation of our immigration laws. The agenda of the Freedom Ride for Immigrant's Rights that set off 9/20 from Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Boston was best illustrated by the following snippets from the dozens of stories in papers across the nation. The new Freedom Ride is designed to put immigration back on lawmakers' agenda. "Congress needs to make up its mind whether immigration law will serve the purpose of American businesses or the common good of the United States of America."Freedom Ride organizers believe immigration is likely to emerge as a campaign issue in the 2004 presidential contest. "We're showing the tremendous political power we have when we stand together." "Hopefully, we can build a coalition and block anti-immigrant legislation." These were the words espoused by dozens of supporters in cities along the route. Never once did the media report that these were illegal aliens who were federal criminals. In Denver, where this writer resides and who attended one rally, a city council member, Councilwoman Wiggleworth gave wholehearted support to this lawless ride. After the Bureau of Homeland Security was called by dozens of Coloradans, not one federal officer showed up to arrest any of the illegal aliens. In fact, like a modern day outlaw Billy the Kid and his ‘Hole in the Wall Gang,' this group was celebrated for its lawlessness. No one responded to the fact that they and over 10 million of their friends are federal criminals the minute they stepped over our border illegally. They chanted, "We are here. We are not going to leave." No one mentioned the underside of this massive invasion into the US. Representing a force of between 8 to 11 million - growing by 800,000 a year - illegal immigrants flexed their political muscle when they headed for Washington DC to influence current and future legislation ranging from outright amnesty to back-door-amnesty achieved through a variety of rewards. Because the very agencies charged with immigration control have had their hands tied and fangs pulled by the current administration, illegals told their stories to the media and rallies across the nation, "in their own words", with no fear of being deported.
Javier Vasquez was 15 when he jumped the northern border of Mexico to work in the fields of Arizona, picking grapes. He has since spent the better part of four years in the US and Canada working on construction jobs, in fields and in restaurants. In June 2002, Vasquez was caught at the US-Canadian border and spent a month in jail in Spokane before being sent back to Mexico. He was back in the US within weeks. No one reported that he displaced Americans out of jobs and would continue the same in the future. Meanwhile, last summer in Boulder, Colorado, eight illegal aliens raped eight American women. The last woman was gang-raped by three illegals before they fled south to the border. Latest polls show 70% of Americans oppose illegal immigration, but are shouted down with hate-labels such as 'xenophobe' and 'racist'. Governors like Gray Davis (now gone) and Senators Orin Hatch of Utah bend over backwards to break or amend our laws in favor of illegals and ignore those of American citizens. Other senators like Campbell and Allard of Colorado twiddle their thumbs as the invasion accelerates. House Representative Mark Udall of Colorado met with illegal aliens and supported them by voting for the DREAM Act, which gives illegals help in staying in the US. Banks support fraudulent matricular consular ID cards issued by foreign governments that allow illegals to remain in this country and use our infrastructure while they send billions of dollars home each year. Tyson Chicken slaughter houses in the heartland hired hundreds of illegals before being detected, but did not pay any fines from their emboldened breaking of the law. Hormel Foods, in Austin, Minnesota hauls them up from Texas to displace American workers at their meat packing plants. They've even hauled up tuberculosis and leprosy, which is spreading into the US population. Not mentioned in the Freedom Ride was a growing form of lawlessness whereby American citizens are shouted down as if it's okay for illegal aliens to break federal laws. It's okay to smuggle drugs that destroy our children's lives, rapists, cop killers, diseases and worse. It's okay to drop 350,000 anchor babies annually and let American taxpayers pay billions in costs while our own hospitals go bankrupt. It's okay to subvert the English language. It's okay to spend billions in Iraq to protect their borders but let 800,000 illegal aliens invade US each year. It's this kind of attitude and action by the federal government that encouraged and pandered to 9/11's success by terrorists. Last weekend, this writer met the mother of Chris Eggle, the National Park Ranger who was killed by Mexican drug smugglers on the border last year. I also met a father whose son was killed in the World Trade Center. They presented slide shows of their kids. Both sobbed at the podium as they said that nothing has changed. "The President, Senate, and Congress will not lift a finger to stop this lawless invasion of our country," she said. Another reporter asked, "What do you think will make the government act on behalf of Americans?" She replied, "Maybe another 9/11, but it's doubtful."
