Immigrant Of The Day: Mourad Lahlou of Moroccoby Kevin R. JohnsonMourad Lahlou
Chef Mourad Lahlou, chef at Aziza on Geary Blvd in San Francisco, is our Immigrant of the Day. Lahlou traveled to the United States from Marrakech in 1985 to study economics at San Francisco State. There, Lahlou began cooking and experimented for small groups of friends and professors. After receiving his master’s degree in economics, Lahlou postponed his academic career to supervise the kitchen as chef/owner of Kasbah in San Rafael, California. Lahlou sought more culinary freedom, closed Kasbah, to open the much-acclaimed Aziza in November 2001. For a story about Lahlou, click here; for an interview, click here. October 26, 2009 | Permalink
