Not that we haven't heard words of optimism before (with little evidence that they're anything more than words), but it's worth noting that Nancy Pelosi is again telling reporters that immigration reform still on track for this year. Here's how America's Voice summarized what she told Spanish-language paper La Opinion:

A La Opinión interview with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, titled “Pelosi advocates reform” (“Pelosi aboga por la reforma” ), appears today in all impreMedia publications. Pelosi is quoted as saying that “I hope to pass immigration reform this year” and “Last week I spoke with the president about the issue, and he reiterated his promise to work with both houses (of Congress) to create a bill that could be passed.”

Pelosi has repeatedly indicated that the Senate needs to debate an immigration reform bill before the House will take it up. Asked whether the House has the votes to pass such a bill, Pelosi told La Opinión she thinks “we will have the votes.” “The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has taken the lead. I think they feel pretty confident about the numbers, and if they see it that way, I do too,” she added. 

On the possibility that the House of Representatives might take up an immigration bill this year before the Senate, Pelosi said “these situations are always up for reevaluation, you devise a strategy.”
