On Monday Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued a legal opinion authorizing law enforcement to inquire into the immigration status of anyone stopped by police officers for any reason.

Police in Virginia were previously was only required to investigate the immigration status of individuals in custody.

It has been reported that the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles seeking to compel the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security to identify mentally incompetent detainees and assign them counsel to represent them during proceedings.

Would it be too much to ask for our government to do the right thing for once without having to be sued?
