The American Immigration Council, an organization that does great work fighting for immigrants, annually honors immigrants of achievement. This year they have selected Cambodian-born Luong Ung who has been the national spokeswoman for Campaign for a Landmine-free World. She's worked on that worthy cause for 13 years. Ms. Ung came to America as a refugee of the "Killing Fields" in her native country and has paid the goodwill back by working on a cause that few would argue is vitally important. Congratulations Ms. Ung.

Daily Kos reports on a hearing in Kansas regarding repealing a law that allows all residents to seek in state tuition at the state's universities. Really, there's no need to even comment on this - it's obviously appalling and should make people in Kansas immediately donate money to whoever is running against this guy.

REP. O’BRIEN: My son who’s a Kansas resident, born here, raised here, didn’t qualify for any financial aid. Yet this girl was going to get financial aid. My son was kinda upset about it because he works and pays for his own schooling and his books and everything and he didn’t think that was fair. We didn’t ask the girl what nationality she was, we didn’t think that was proper. But we could tell by looking at her that she was not originally from this country. [...]

REP. GATEWOOD: Can you expand on how you could tell that they were illegal?

REP. O’BRIEN: Well she wasn’t black, she wasn’t Asian, and she had the olive complexion.

Former RNC Chair Ed Gillespie warns his party that they need to prove they're pro-immigration by supporting legal immigration reform measures that will make the US system more welcoming. In the mean time, a new poll shows the public is overwhelmingly in favor of comprehensive immigration reform. And another poll of Latino voters shows that while the Democrats haven't locked up their vote for 2012, the GOP is in much bigger trouble.

Congrats to crooner Michael Buble. The Canadian-born singer walked away with the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Haven't Met You Yet" and another for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Crazy Love. He's now got quite a collection - five in all! Crazy Love has been a smash success for Buble debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart last year.
