Sensenbrenner Statement on Cancellation of Today’s INS Restructuring Hearing

WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. (R-Wis.) released the following statement:

“Today’s Subcommittee hearing was canceled because INS Commissioner Ziglar did not present his testimony to the Committee until 12:00 noon today. This is a clear violation of Committee requirements, which all testifying are familiar with. The deadline to receive this testimony was close of business Tuesday – a deadline made clear in the letter inviting Mr. Ziglar to testify and in subsequent conversations with INS staff.

“This violation put Members of this Committee in an unfair position. Members had time neither to review the testimony nor prepare questions based on the testimony. This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. A rescheduled date for this hearing will be announced in the near future.”
