Dear Editor:

I felt sympathy after reading the letter from "Faithful Reader" who described how their family is suffering after her husband, a Mexican national, was deported to Mexico after his conviction "for a third offense DWI". My sympathies lie mainly with the children who are too young to understand why we adults do such foolish things sometimes. I have little sympathy for the deportee. He had at least two prior chances to decide what was important to him and he still chose to drink and drive. Perhaps if "Faithful Reader" could have helped him to see possible consequences of his actions, the family might still be together. It appears that the main reason that he's in Mexico is because he's a "scoff-law", not because of some glitch in the system.
