IMMIGRANT'S DIARY more

Immigrant's last words

An Immigrant

In short Immigrants life is a "Life of Uncertainty." I came to US with my Family (Wife & 2 Kids) in Nov '96 on H1B visa. I am a Computer Professional with a 3 Yr. Degree and 12 Years of Professional Experience. I came to US with the same qualifications and experience and was working for a company since 4 years. My employer filed for my Green Card, we followed all the steps required by INS:

1. My education was evaluated and the evaluation said "3 Yr.Degree and 12 Yrs. Experience is "EQUIVALENT TO US BS DEGREE (4 Yr.)"
2. My Labor Cert. was approved accordingly
3. Applied I-140 in EB-2 Category and was denied in that stage because: INS says "I don't have 4 Yr. Degree"

My family and I had to hear this news after 4 yrs. It happened so suddenly, based on the Labor Cert. approval, we thought that we would get Green Card and started settling down. We bought a Condo on 28th Sept. and moved on 1st Oct. and we heard the denial news on 10th Oct.

All our happiness turned into sadness. Our house looks gloomy as if we lost something near and dear to our lives. Within one week our lives went back to 14 years. When we moved to US we sold everything we earned in 10 yrs, moved to US. We waited for 4 yrs. to settle down and when we finally settled down we heard this terrible news. It was a shock to the entire family.

When I first told the news to my wife, my wife said "Let's drown in the Ocean" these are her feelings. I know with 2 kids we can't do that and it is not the end of the world. My son was just 2 years and my daughter was just 4 years when we moved to US. It is hard even for my Kids to settle again. I have another 2 years to live in US because my 6 yr. limit will expire in 2 years and the thought of going back after 2 years scares us.

Oh! GOD why did I mess up my life and that of my family.

"FEEL THE FELLOW FEELINGS"

These are the only Last Words Immigrants can say!

"MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN US?"

"FATHER FORGIVE THEM; FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO"

"FATHER, INTO THY HANDS WE COMMIT OUR PETITION"
