A Note from the Editors:
With a minimal release of details in advance, including waiting until the day the service was inaugurated to release the I-907 form, INS has implemented premium processing for a fee. As an Associated Press item on the CBS site notes many immigration groups complain that the INS is giving the rich and famous special treatment. According to the INS Interim Rule published in the Federal Register the premium processing service will benefit everyone who files a petition with the INS because the fees will be deposited into the examinations fee account and used to hire additional adjudicators, contact representatives and support personnel. Making government services available on a preferential basis to those who can pay more is antithetical to the founding principle of the nation that all men are created equal. Even worse, this practice is being institutionalized at a point that for some will be their first step towards citizenship. If they can afford it.
