Immigration Law Out Of Sync With Reality Leads To Frustration Among Enforcers Of The Law
The Washington Times reports "The question of amnesty for illegal aliens is a hot topic not only for politicians in Washington, but also among the thin green line of U.S. Border Patrol agents here and elsewhere along the U.S.-Mexico border. "What the hell are we doing out here?" asked one veteran agent. "Why don't we just pack it in? Amnesty? It's just an open invitation for more illegal aliens to come into the country, stay low for a while and, eventually, get their citizenship papers."
Immigrants Are Ever More Crucial After 9/11
Cyrus D. Mehta writes "Since the September 11 attacks, many have formed the misguided opinion that immigration has to be curbed to make America safer. Nothing could be further from the truth. Immigration is not synonymous with terrorism. Fortunately, our elected leaders, including the President, have conveyed this message most emphatically. We must continuously be reminded that America remains a nation of immigrants. The reason for its robustness, economic power and leadership in the world is because of its immigrants’ contributions."

A clear example of the disjunction between federal and state interests is presented in the area of post-secondary education for undocumented immigrants."

Dear Editor:
Before September 11 and in a few instances after ,
there has been talk of legalizing the undocumented,
since they are already here and contribute to the
economy. Further, having them finger printed and
documented helps, and does not hurt, national
security.
There is, however, a group of other immigrants that
needs to be taken into consideration if ever such
amnesty will take place. This group houses millions of
those who enter the US legally and fail, for various
reasons, not excluding the compexity of INS laws, to
maintain lawful status. This group is represented
mainly by Africans. They take up the 'dirty jobs'- and
pay all applicable taxes in jobs that most average
Americans will do everything in their power to avoid.
A good example is working with the elderly, in
Assisted Living homes. Given that more Americans are
aging more than are being born, this service is of
vital importance and many Americans, including those
that are fighting immigration today, will end up in
some assisted living home or another, bed-ridden, or
wheelchair-bound,where they will be assisted in the
bathroom, have their soiled diapers changed, and
spoon-fed by the very immigrants they detested when
their bodies were still capable.
Needless to say, legalizing both the documented and
those that legally enter the US makes security
intelligence so much easier since authorities, in such
an eventuality, have all the information they need
about everyone who is living in the US. This helps
detect sleeper cells and any would-be criminals and
terrorists before they strike.

The High Cost of Not Having Health Insurance
"..........It is a sad fact, but in America you will receive far better health care if you have insurance. Substandard care may mean waiting longer for care or it may mean not getting necessary preventative care. Some hospitals may not even admit an uninsured person or they may send them to a public hospital where the lines are even longer! Many uninsured immigrants feel like they have been placed in a lower category of society because of not having insurance......."
