Diversity Visa 2006

The Department of State announced that the Diversity Visa (DV) 2006 program is now open and instructions to apply are now available. The DV lottery makes available 50,000 permanent resident visas to people from countries with low immigration rates to the US. Winners of the DV lottery are chosen randomly by a computer lottery drawing.

Key points:

  • The DV lottery is free - there is no charge to enter the DV program.
  • There is only one way to enter the DV-2006 lottery. Applicants must submit an Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form, available only at www.dvlottery.state.gov.
  • Only one entry per person - more than one entry automatically disqualifies the person from the DV lottery.
  • The application submission period for DV-2006 is from November 5, 2004 to January 7, 2005.
  • Note: as of November 1, 2004, there has been a change in the DV instructions regarding photo standards.
For more information on the DV lottery, see here. For the specific DV instructions, including the change in photo standards, see here.
