Smith Response to White House Stalling H1-B Action

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 26, 2000

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Lamar Smith released the following statement on Senate action today on
H-1B high-skilled worker visa bill."Apparent Senate movement on the H-1b bill is an illusion; the
Senate effectively has done nothing to remove the barricade to real progress thrown up by the
White House, the insistence on linking action on the H-1b bill with amnesty for illegals. The only
change is that now the link is to be indirect, the amnesty being attached to
another bill."

"Progress on the H-1b bill in the House remains dependent upon de-linking the bill from an amnesty
for illegals."
