INS Issues Employment Authorization Documents For Hondurans
and Nicaraguans Who Have Re-registered For Temporary Protected Status
WASHINGTON – The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) today announced
it has completed processing renewal Employment Authorization Documents (EADs)
for more than 70,000 Hondurans and Nicaraguans who have re-registered for
Temporary Protected Status. These Hondurans and Nicaraguans should receive their
renewal EAD cards by December 5, 2000. The renewal EADs will be valid until July
5, 2001, which is when the current extension of TPS for Honduras and Nicaragua
is set to expire.
Hondurans and Nicaraguans who have re-registered for TPS but who have not
received a renewal EAD from INS by December 5, 2000, and believe they should
have received a renewal EAD, are encouraged to contact the INS National Customer
Service Center at its toll free number —(800) 375-5283—Monday through Friday
between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
INS advises employers with questions and concerns regarding EADs and the
employment eligibility verification process (Form I-9 process) to contact the
INS Office of Business Liaison Employer information number at 1-800-357-2099.
