Media Note Third Annual Report on USG-Sponsored Exchanges Released The Interagency Working Group on U.S. Government-Sponsored International Exchanges and Training (IAWG) announces the availability of its FY 1999 Annual Report. The report, which reflects contributions from 14 federal departments and 28 federal agencies, includes information on more than 180 international exchanges and training programs. The Annual Report includes an inventory of FY 1999 U.S. Government-sponsored international exchanges and training programs, as well as sections addressing country field studies, public-private sector partnerships, distance learning, performance measurement, and program duplication and complementariness. The report is available in both PDF and text formats through the IAWG website: http://www.iawg.gov/. In addition to the Annual Report, the IAWG produced the following reports on FY 1999 international exchanges and training activities that are available on the IAWG website:
President Clinton created the IAWG on July 15, 1997, to recommend measures for improving the coordination, efficiency, and effectiveness of U.S. Government-sponsored international exchanges and training. The Omnibus Consolidated and Emergency Appropriations Act of 1999 (Public Law 105-277) reaffirmed this mandate and provided a statutory basis for the IAWG's operations. The IAWG is composed of members from over 20 federal departments and agencies. The Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs serves as the Statutory Chair of the IAWG.
