NOTICES OF HEARINGS/MEETINGS
permanent subcommittee on investigations
Mr. LEVIN. Mr. President, I would like to announce for the
information of the Senate and the public that the Permanent
Subcommittee on Investigations of the Committee on Governmental Affairs
will hold a hearing entitled ``Review of INS Policy on Releasing
Illegal Aliens Pending Deportation Hearing.'' The upcoming subcommittee
hearing will examine how the Immigration and Naturalization Service,
INS, processes persons arrested for illegal entry into the United
States outside ports of entry, as well as the difference between
procedures used at ports of entry and procedures used outside ports of
entry for persons seeking or obtaining illegal entry into the United
States. The hearing will ask the question whether current procedures
makes sense in light of the September 11 terrorist attack and our
ongoing effort to defeat terrorism.
The hearing will take place on Tuesday, November 13, 2001, at 9:30
a.m., in room 342 of the Dirksen Senate Office
