INS issued a news release and a fact sheet on preliminary enrollment in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
Visa Function and Foreign Policy
The Under Secretary for Political Affairs testifying on behalf of the Department of State before the House International Relations Committee said, "In creating the new Department, with its proper emphasis on homeland defense and law enforcement, it is important to recognize that visa policy plays a vital role in foreign policy concerns of the United States." Chairman Rep. Henry Hyde R-IL made an introductory statement during the hearing.
