BIA Issues Two New Practice Manual Appendices
The Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) issued two updated appendice chapters, telephonic information and citation guidelines of its practice manual.
BCIS Issues TPS Reminder For Eligible Hondurans And Nicaraguans
The Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) today reminded those eligible Hondurans and Nicaraguans to immediately re-register for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to maintain TPS and employment authorization for the 18-month period beginning on July 5, 2003 and ending on January 5, 2005.
BCBP Releases Migrant Deaths, Rescues Stats For FY 99'-03'
The Border Safety Initiative of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (BCBP) issued a comparison of migrant deaths and migrant rescues by sector for Fiscal Years 99'-03'.
Curt Review Procedure Does Not Affect Substantive Rights
In Khattak v. Ashcroft, No. 02-1475 (4th Cir. Jun. 13, 2003), the court said that "allowing summary opinions in clear cases was nothing more than a procedural change that did not affect substantive rights." The court also stated "we simply have no reason to conclude the size of the BIA panel makes any difference whatsoever in such appeals."
Zadvydas Ruling And Its Applicability To Excludable Aliens Is Under Consideration For Review By Supreme Court
The Legal Times reports "The US Supreme Court will soon consider an urgent plea from the Bush administration to overturn a lower court ruling that would force the government to release imprisoned illegal aliens with criminal records whose native countries don't want them back."
Sen. Cornyn Plans To Introduce Guest Worker Program Bill
The Houston Chronicle reports "Sen. Cornyn (R-TX) will outline a guest worker program today that would allow some undocumented immigrants to legally hold a job for up to three years while working toward full-time residency, according to a draft of the proposal."
