Unions Back CIR
The Los Angeles Times reports that the top two labor unions in the US announced their backing for comprehensive immigration reform.
"The agreement, supported by the AFL-CIO and the Change to Win federation, supports the legalization of the nation's 12 million undocumented immigrants and the formation of an independent commission to analyze the labor market's needs and assess shortages for the admission of future foreign workers. The unions oppose any new guest worker programs that would allow employers to bring foreigners in on a temporary basis."

Regarding the article America's Loss Is The World's Gain (04/14/09 ID): This situation may turn out to be an illustration of Alexander Graham Bell's observation, "When one door closes, another opens." This will be true if it encourages Americans (LPRs and citizens of the US) to get the training and education they need to take the jobs that are being abandoned. Maybe some of the employers will provide tuition money or other types of financial assistance in return for an employment commitment of some kind. It works for the military. The rest of Alexander Graham Bell's sentence is worth considering too, "but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.

Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement is what is needed in the US. The politicians and opened borders groups like to submit that our immigration laws are broken. This simply is not true. Politicians want us to give them amnesty along with the illegal aliens. We would not have out of control immigration if the laws had been enforced. It is time to tell the truth, politicians want the illegal aliens here for votes. They spend our tax dollars to buy the votes and dis-infranchise Americans and legal immigrants. This insanity needs to stop. Nothing less than Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement is acceptable.
