Comment: Hispanic Prison Majority - The US Sentencing Commission reports that Hispanics now comprise over 50% of the people being sentenced in Federal Courts, though they comprise of only 16% of the population. The reason for this massive increase in Hispanic incarceration is that immigration-related prosecutions now top the list for federal prosecutions overall. Associated Press quotes Fordham University Law School professor Deborah Denno, an expert on racial disparities in the criminal justice system: "Statistics like this have to start drawing attention to this country's immigration policies and what we're doing, if this is one of the results. The implications for Hispanics are huge when you think of the number of families affected by having their breadwinners put away for what in some cases would be considered a non-violent offense."
