Question:

Do Canadian nurses need CGFNS certification for the green card if they have NYCLEX? I know they need a Visa Screen. But what about the CGFNS certificate? For a green card in the regs, you need either a license or CGFNS. Some Canadian nurses think if they have NYCLEX they don't need the CGFNS certificate.

Answer by Donna Richardson:

A nurse must have either passed the CGFNS CP exam or the NCLEX to qualify for a visa screen. However to qualify for the NCLEX in 40 or more states the nurse must hold the CP certificate. A Canadian nurse who has not passed either the CP exam or the NCLEX would not meet the criteria for visa screen if they only hold a US license by endorsement of their Canadian license.
