Dear Editor:
In case anyone was wondering the exact quote to which Ann Mack's letter eluded during her tirade in the 9/12/05 Immigration Weekly here it is: "Generations of hardworking immigrants have come to our shores, helping our nation achieve one of the highest standards of living in the world. We celebrate this Labor Day as a tribute to all workers who make up the American workforce." I wish to reply with a quote by Samuel Gompers, founder and longtime president of the American Federation of Labor, "Labor Day is devoted to no man, living or dead, to no sect, race, or nation." Her comments appear to be elitist and racist, considering that she was herself a descendent of immigrants.

Dear Editor:
Ann Mack's letter (9/12/05 IW) said, "It is a disgrace to suggest that the illegal immigrants join our celebration."
Not to worry. Most of them were too busy working to celebrate.
