< Back to current issue of Immigrant's Weekly Dear Editor: I hope that these words are not met with anger. I only wish to express my opinion. I value everyone's opinions as much as mine. I believe that we are judging people who are in the same position our founding fathers were several hundred years ago. Let us not forget that the vast majority of US citizens are here because of immigration. We are a nation built on hope and freedom. The minute we begin to limit the hope and freedom of future Americans we also begin to destroy the foundation we were built on. I know it is easy to say stop immigration now, especially since we are Americans. Our mind set allows us to believe that it was OK for us to come to America but it is no longer OK for others to do the same. We must put our fears aside and realize the importance of our diversity. If we learn nothing else from the oppression we have put on may races such as the American Indian and the African American we must learn to accept others and their contributions. I ask anyone who reads this to think of the immigrants who now serve in our armed forces and protect the freedoms of your families. Could you look at these men and women and tell them that they are not wanted because they were not born in the right country? It seems to me that immigration is only a problem when it is not in our interest. Who are we to tell someone they are not allowed to live on God's land!
Sincerely,
