Dear Editor:

I wish to congratulate the INS for taking solid steps in making sure that we prevent criminals & terrorists from entering and remaining in this country, by introducing the revised requirements for B1 and F1 visas.

What we need now is a call for all illegal aliens who have over stayed their allotted time to register with the INS so that their case can be investigated, i-n-d-i-v-i-d-u-a-l-l-y. Some will need interviews, some will not. The INS should request a resume of their previous 10 - 20 years history of all persons i8 years and older.

Several of these persons are operating businesses and have employed citizens. They are not criminals! That is something we should commend. I stop short of saying condone, as we do not condone illegal activities.

That way, only those who have well intentions will come forward. When these come forward, there will be less persons to focus on. There are also children, who may have over stayed their visitors visas and are attending schools, I don't think these new measures should affect them. Please exclude children 18 years and younger who have been living here for several years. This will further eliminate terrorists and their associates. I do not believe that we have much to gain by trying to drive out, or force into hiding good natured & well intentioned individuals from our midst.

We know where the treat is most lokely to come from, please let us deal with that, focus on the treat not on "illegals". Some persons who are "legal" but who are associated with the threat because of common beliefs are to be revisted, it is in that group that we will find the root of our problem. Please focus on the areas where the threat has come from as it will take far fewer resources (money and time).

Let us use our funds to find criminals, not make criminals.

Byron
