The INS has extended temporary protected status (TPS) designation for Burundi, from November 2, 2000, until November 2, 2001. The 30-day re-registration period begins November 9, 2000, and ends
December 11, 2000.
Sierra Leone TPS Extended
The INS has extended temporary protected status (TPS) designation for Sierra Leone from November 2, 2000, until November 2, 2001. The 30-day re-registration period begins November 9, 2000,

The INS has issued a correction to a notice of proposed rulemaking and notice of public
hearing that was published in the Federal Register
on Monday,
August 7, 2000 relating to transfers of property by US persons to foreign trusts
having one or more US beneficiaries.

Presidential election.
Immigrant, Detained for 3 ½ Years, Emerges from Labyrinth The New York Times
[registration required] reports on an asylum case that, according to human rights
advocates, illustrates the harshness of IIRIR's "mandatory detention" requirement
for asylum applicants even if they have relatives or other sponsors in the US.
This law has tripled the number of non-citizens in INS custody, and detainees who insist
on improved conditions are often placed in solitary confinement or sent to isolated
county jails.
