Dear Editor:
There is no doubt that, just as Jim Roberts' latest letter states (02/12/10 ID), the common ground in our previous recent letters was short lived indeed. I had hoped that our letters' small area of agreement would last a little longer, since I used to live in Mr. Roberts' state of Arizona (according to his letter) for about a year (the same year in which the attack on Pearl Harbor took place, though I was far too young at the time to remember anything about it). But any possibility of agreement ends with Mr. Roberts' letter's support of the infamous literacy tests that were used for so many decades to deny the vote to African-Americans. Almost by definition, these tests were impossible to pass. When I was a law student In the early 1960's, there was an apocryphal story about an African-American applicant who was supposedly given a Chinese newspaper for the reading test by a Southern white voting registrar. According to the story, the applicant answered that he couldn't read the smaller characters, but he had no trouble with the headline. Amazed, the registrar asked him what the headline said. His replied that it read: "No black people are voting in Georgia this year." This illustrates the point, also made clear by Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann, that the voting literacy tests were never meant to be objective. They were only used in order to ensure that minority applicants would fail. It would be absurd to think that Tancredo had forgotten this dismal piece of 20th Century history when he, to his lasting disgrace, recommended bringing these notorious tests back to stop Latino US citizens for voting, in the 21st Century.

Dear Editor:
Conservatives and its movement such as Tea Party are in confused and delusional state on their own principles and values. They don't know how to reconcile between their emphasize on the Constitution that includes the secular principle of Separation Church and State by wrongfully mixing their extreme Judeo-Christianity belief into national policies and laws, between the call of Christ to be good Samaritans, showing compassion to strangers and sharing to the needies and preach the Gospel of God's "amnesty" to sinful mankind and yes, God believes and is offering second chance to all mankind if they repent while insisting some of their human beings should be deported and separated from their loved ones and should never be given any kind of "amnesty" just because they have broken racist and apartheid man made immigration laws to justify protectionism for the sake of sefish nativism. By demanding that same sex marriage should be illegal but not demanding divorces be illegal and not to mention holier than thou supposed to be conservative politicians got busted cheating on their spouses, getting involved in same sex unwanted advances and scandals and sleeping with prostitutes and still refused to resign while preaching on others to uphold moral values and "sanctity of marriage". Where are the Tea Partiers' voice on the 1 trillion cost of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with all of its wastes and corruptions while they balk and condemn the cost of health care bill and welfare taken by poor Americans and "illegal" immigrants? It's time to restore common sense in our national policies and politics and uphold its integrity level. We have enough of endless hypocrisy.
